Sketchbook-collage Vol. 2

Making the mistake not to backup important stuff – which can be anything from a spare key to your digital data – can be so annoying. So I guess in a way this is a sketch intended for myself. To remind me to back up things I find important. But still remembering not to be to organized and thereby loosing the great feeling of personal freedom. Therefor Back(ing) the fuck up..

BDMK exams project Vol. 1

The exams projects for Digital Media Culture has begun. My group and I have decided to do a study on danish soccer hooligans. We are of the belief that what most people see as internet advantages, hooligans find hampering. Accessibility and lack of administrative awareness concerning fake identities and such. Therefor this would be a different and interesting approach.

Sketchbook-collage

So last thursday I got on a plane to Egypt. My mom had asked me if I wanted to go there with her and my siblings. 25-30 degrees Celsius, swimming in the pool and the Red Sea, a trip to Cairo and the pyramids – this I simply couldn’t refuse. Therefor I’m writing this post in the lobby of our hotel in Makadi, Egypt. I don’t have my macbook nor any fancy graphic design editing programs. Therefor this skecthbook-collage isn’t really a collage but sequence of pictures i took of my analog sketchbook here in Makadi. All my sketches are holiday inspired since I forgot all my previous sketches in Copenhagen and this environment is new, exiting and inspiring. I have uploaded pictures taken with my phone on flickr.

A Serious Man

The new semester has begun and i’m still struggling to turn around my sleeping rhythm. I personally get the most out of following lectures and not reading all day. Therefor I have decided from now on to be – as the Coen brothers named their latest movie – A Serious Man! Follow lectures and attend exercises. Go!

So is this it..?

My first semester at the IT University is almost done and therefor I find myself in the following position: Blog conclusion. I started out a bit to ambitious I guess. I wanted to write about both music and movies, but ended up doing neither. Blogging is still new to me and expressing myself this way doesn’t come naturally. I’ve gotten more and more used to it during the semester and I’m positive that it is something I wan’t to continue doing.

I think that the thing that generally drives bloggers to write is the fact that some one on the other side is reading along. And I have the impression that no one but me – and perhaps my mom – reads this blog on a weekly basis. This isn’t very motivating and probably one of the reasons I don’t blog as much as I though I would.

Other than my failure to write extra inspirational posts as I wanted, I think my blog turned out great. Im happy about my design and I think it gives my blog a certain mystic I haven’t seen anywhere else. I’ve tried to use inspirational pictures and small amounts of text, as I am of the impression that people who do read my blog – if any – doesn’t want to read one page after the other.

Exam Reflection Report – BIID

BIID Exam

In this reflection report I strive to give an insight in the design choices, method of gaining empiric data and how my group and I have used different theories to achieve a deliberate interactive design. With a goal to develop a user ori- entated concept suitable for our target group we did a number of qualitative interviews and an observation. We did this in collaboration with an informant, whom we consulted throughout the design progress. After gathering empiric data, concerning our subject, we did number of methods and analyses based on theories by Paul Dourish, Marcus Svensson and Tomas Sokolers among others. This led to a design that would be a natural part of our target group’s everyday life as well as suiting a tangible purpose. Furthermore I reflect on our final con- cept and how it subsequently could be expanded with additional features.

Exam paper – BMIK

BIMK-EKSAMENSOPGAVE

The digital society has, over the last decade, evolved rapidly, from the introduction of blogging software in the late nineties. With the relatively new emersion of web 2.0, the internet has been democratized in such a manor that everybody now has the necessary tools to blog. The barrier of hard coding is, also, no longer an issue. How does this reflect on the written word?

In this paper we have, through the theoretics: Andrew Keen, Lawrence Lessig, Felix Stalder, James Surwiecki and others, determined how bachelor students at the IT University of Copenhagen relate to this. Furthermore we will discuss the credibility of blogs and the changes in perspective when talking about and using the term blog. As an addition to our theoretical deliberation we did a qualitative study, based on a focus group. Our results showed us, that it is very individual, how people think of the credibility on blogs. We can see that people are aware of the need to be critical regarding the information they read at blogs and that these are not meant as a substitute for traditional news media.

Working as a group – on a blog

This way of working on an individual blog didn’t appeal to me even from the start. I like to be able to work with my own flow and ask who ever I find prominence at any given time for advise. Working this way – in my opinion – was more creatively restrictive that productive. I love hearing other peoples opinion and I often ask for advice, but to have three predetermined people as my “council” simply didn’t work. This opinion was shared by the rest of the group and therefore we didn’t continue our collaboration for long. And since I had plenty of other people to ask and discuss opinions with, I don’t see this as a problem.

Prototype – Pitch Vol. 1

This is a video of my group and I presenting our LED-bracelet prototype. This is our first pitch of our new idea. We decided to call it MoveOn. This refers to moving physically but it also works as a provocation to the fact that these men are suppose to go on a date and therefore move on relationship wise.

After the pitch our opponent group and the rest of the class gave us some productive criticism. We are still only in the beginning of our prototype development and it was therefore great to get an outside opinion on our idea. This gave us a lot to work with for the next pitch.

Design sketch Vol. 2 – LED Bracelet

4077562972_a6dfab3f16_b

Last BIID exercise we did a 3D play, showing our calendar tablet. It turned out a lot of other groups had a similar idea and therefore we chose to go a different direction. More important, we choose another design because the tablet didn’t really do anything to motivate Herman. Our new idea is a LED Bracelet that changes color. The concept focuses on trying to motivate Herman and other men to walk to the adult day center instead of talking the bus. Each time they walk there with the bracelet, they get a free dinner for two. The bracelet calculates how far the person has walked and indicates this with a color change. This gives to possibility for the men at the adult day center to compete and win extra princes. The bracelet is still in the sketch phase though and we are probably gonna change it quite a bit. We are starting the prototype phase very soon so stay tuned for the next LED Bracelet update!

Design sketch exercise

Earlier my group made 3 storyboards. Now we chose one of these storyboards and made a little play to show it in 3D. Afterwords we spend 50 minutes to come up with a solution, to solve our identified problem. Our informant has problems remembering appointments that doesn’t take place in his everyday life. Therefor we came up with the idea to make an electronic calendar tablet. The calendar would show all his appointments and give his family the possibility to post appointments in the calendar.

Watch our pitch of the idea performed as a play.

Chindogu exercise

IMG_0010

This exercise was about inventing an ingenious everyday gadget. We had think creative, come up with an idea and exercise it in few hours. While doing this the process was in focus. We did a brain storm, put our ideas on post-its and then rated them. This exercise was a new and great way to work.

My group came up with the idea for a disposable umbrella – OneBrella

Interview with Herman

P9260009

Last saturday, the 26th of september, my group and I did an interview with Herman. Herman is Buster’s granddad. Line, Buster, Christian, myself and Herman attended the interview. Line did the interviewing, Christian did the observation, Buster took pictures and I took notes. The interview went really well and we got some comprehensive answers. Herman enjoyed the interview and he told us we were more than welcome to do another interview if we wanted to..

Check out the photos Buster took at the interview here.
